Teeth Grinding/ Bruxism

mEDICAL TREATMENT.
Teeth Grinding-Bruxism

Bruxism is excessive teeth grinding or jaw clenching which can be a painful condition effecting up to 30% of the general population. Several symptoms can be associated with bruxism such as headaches, earache, facial pain and multiple dental problems for example hypersensitive teeth, damage to dental restorations, chipped teeth and loss of tooth enamel.  Bruxism can also cause an overdeveloped masseter muscle giving the appearance of a wide set jaw.

Injecting botulinum, a natural toxin into the muscles around the jaw  is a safe and effective to weaken the muscle and therefore stop the habitual grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw.

Procedure

A thorough consultation and evaluation of medical history to deem suitability for the procedure will be conducted. The  treatment itself will involve multiple small injections of the toxin into the muscles around the jaw therefore relaxing the muscles to prevent involuntary grinding.

Side Effects

As with all injections, there can commonly be some redness and tenderness at injection sites which can last up to 72 hours. Occasionally, clients may experience a mild headache for up to 48 hours and there may be a small risk of bruising at injection sites.

Results

Results usually last 3-6 months and can take up to 2 weeks to take effect.
